  • If you are allergic to many fabrics, bamboo is a good option for you.
  • Most bamboo grows without the need for herbicides or pesticides. As long as non-organic materials are not added in the manufacturing process, your bamboo pillows may be organic. Unfortunately, pillows like this can be nearly impossible to find.
  • Bamboo is not perfectly environmentally friendly, but it is one of the greener options available.
  • It’s a reasonably priced option.

If you buy a bamboo pillow, you should know that most of the pillow will not be constructed from bamboo. In most cases, it’s only the outer covering that is bamboo. The filling could be memory foam, latex, polyester, rayon, or many other materials. Unfortunately, many companies even sell pillows as ‘bamboo’, when even the outer covering is mostly rayon or other synthetic material. This is definitely a product where buyer beware is a good rule of thumb.

If you aren’t impressed by the hype surrounding bamboo pillows, you certainly have options. Memory foam pillows can be found anywhere, and are a good option for comfort. So are cotton, linen, and other materials. Even kapok is becoming a popular stuffing for pillows.

Finally, keep in mind that if you do find a bamboo pillow covering, you could buy the filing separately. Then just use the bamboo outer cloth over the stuffing of your choice.
